No matter what your fitness goals are, green smoothies will get you there. If you are trying to build lean muscle you can add in whey or soy protein powder. If you are looking to lose weight, green smoothies are great because they have high amounts of fiber that will help to keep you full longer.

Many people are scared off by anything “green.” The key is in the combination of fruits and vegetables. There are some combinations of green smoothies that go much better together than others.

To make green smoothies taste delicious, use:

  • butter leaf lettuce
  • romaine lettuce
  • spinach
  • kale

These blend deliciously with fresh fruit. If you are new to green drinks, you should start off with butter leaf or romaine lettuce and work your way up to kale and spinach leaves. Frozen fruits are also great for your green smoothies and give the drink an ice cream shake-like consistency. Frozen banana always blends deliciously and will mask the taste of the spinach and kale.

Kale is our favorite green ingredient because it is one of the healthiest and most nutrient-dense foods in the world. Kale scares a lot of people away because of its bitter taste but when combined with the right ingredients, you can hardly even taste it. Foe example kale and tropical fruits. Tropical fruits that blend perfectly with kale are:

  • mango
  • coconut
  • pineapple

Orange juice makes for a great liquid base for smoothies. If some of the smoothies taste too “bitter”, swap romaine lettuce or butter leaf lettuce for kale and spinach.

Get creative with your green smoothie recipes and add not just fruits but veges:

  •  avocado
  • carrot juice
  • cauliflower
