Poached egg is a lot easier to make than we think. We know 3 easy ways of how to make a restaurant style runny-yolked egg.

Microwave It

Cooking time: 70 seconds.

Ingredients:

  • egg
  • vinegar

Equipment:

  • microwave
  • cup
  • slotted spoon

Directions:

  1. Fill cup to 1/3 with water.
  2. Add 1/3 tea spooon of vinegar.
  3. Break the egg carefully and pour it gently into the cup.
  4. Put the cup into the microwave, cover it and microwave on high for 70 seconds. The exact time depends on your microwave, you will need to experiment a bit.
  5. Remove the poached egg from the cup with a slotted spoon.
  6. Serve on toast or as you would like.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Experiment with the time. On our microwave, it takes 70 seconds on 900. With your microwave, it may take less. Try first 50 seconds, then make it 10 second more.
  • Try with and without cover for your cup.
  • Make sure there is enough water in the cup to cover your egg. Otherwise your egg may explode and you have to clean the mess in the microwave. 

Boil It

Boiled Poached Eggs

Cooking time: 4-5 minutes.

Ingredients: 

  • egg

Equipment:

  • saucepan
  • slotted spoon

Instructions:

  1. Boil the water and bring it a bare simmer.
  2. Crack the egg into a small bowl or cup and gently slip it into the water.
  3. Turn off the heat and cover the pan. In 4-5 minutes get the egg out of the water with a slotted spoon and serve on the plate.

Tips & Tricks:

  • The timing depends on the size of the egg, so experiment. If the egg is ready in 4 minutes, reduce the time. 
  • To prevent egg from spreading, use a fine mesh sieve that will remove some of the thin wispy egg whites. Then gently place the egg into the water.

Instructions:

  1. Remove the cups from the pan, fill it with water and bring it to the boil. 
  2. Crack eggs into cups and place them back to the pan.
  3. Cover the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes. 
  4. Remove the cups from the pan and serve the egg.
