Although getting older should be embraced, it can, for some, be a difficult thing to deal with. Not only is your body starting to slow down, but that once youthful reflection has a few more wrinkles and perhaps doesn’t look as energized as it did in years gone by.

The good news is that getting older doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. With a bit of effort and time and a positive mindset, there are several things you can do to help you to look younger and feel great. Here are just a few of them.

Drink Lots of Water

You have no doubt heard it many times before, but it’s true. Drinking water will not only make you look better but will make you feel better too. Our bodies on average comprise around 60% water, so when those levels are depleted, it has an impact on how we function and how we look.

In terms of appearance, imagine that your body is a grape. When a grape becomes dehydrated, it shrivels into a raisin. Our bodies work that way too. When you are dehydrated, fine lines and wrinkles appear more pronounced, but when you replenish those water stocks, the lines plump up and become far less apparent. If you don’t currently drink enough, try having around 2 liters of water every day and track the visible progress of your skin. You might be amazed at the results.

Water levels also change how our bodies function. If you don’t get enough, it can make it difficult for our kidneys to flush out nasty toxins. Our brains don’t work to their optimum levels either, which can affect how it sends signals to other parts of our body. Dehydration can cause a host of issues, so make sure you are drinking enough, and very quickly you will see and feel a noticeable difference.

Take Care of Your Face

From a good skincare routine to taking care of your pearly whites, your face is probably one of the biggest tell-tale signs of aging, so you must look after it.

As well as drinking water, a good daily skincare routine will help slow down the signs of aging. Start with a good cleanser morning and night to make sure that any dirt or grime is removed. A toner will ensure that any excess oils are removed and give your skin a good balance. Using an anti-aging moisturizer day and night will further help to hydrate your skin and keep it feeling soft and fresh.

Dead skin cells need to be removed once in a while to make way for new skin underneath, so it’s worthwhile exfoliating once a week. Your skin will feel refreshed and far more youthful which, in turn, should make you feel far more confident and positive about how you look.

Your skin may look amazing, but if your teeth are a bit worse for wear, it won’t make you look any younger. Visit your dentist regularly and make sure you are brushing your teeth twice a day. If you have any missing teeth, consider having them replaced either with traditional or flexible partial dentures. What are flexible partial dentures? They look and function like real teeth but are made from a softer, more flexible material which can help them fit more comfortably. Nice teeth and a confident smile can make you look far younger, so if you have issues that need addressing, don’t delay!

Get Fit

Regardless of how much exercise you have done in the past, you are never too old to get fit, and you might be shocked at how much better it can make you feel and look. When we exercise, our bodies release endorphins which positively enhance our mood and make you feel wonderful. Getting fit can also change your body shape and help you to lose weight, so it’s win-win regardless of how you look at it.

If you aren’t sure which fitness type might be right for you, try a few different things until you find the one that you like best. Running or aerobics are popular with people of all ages though, over time, they may take their toll on your joints. Pilates and yoga, on the other hand, are a great lower-impact way to get fit and become more supple. Whatever you decide to try, you will be glad you did. Feeling fit and healthy can help to transform your body as well as your mind.
