There is a pre-workout drink that not only makes workout feel significantly easier, but makes you also feel less hungry later in the day, according to a study published in Journal of Applied Physiology. Wondering what that could be?
Well, you might get your next pre-workout by swinging by at your local Starbucks. New research published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, simulated a typical morning scenario where you’d drink coffee, hit the gym, eat breakfast with another cup, and then eat lunch.
And here it comes: When drinking coffee before the workout, the participants reported the workout as way easier than it was without the stimulant.
But wait—there’s more! The researchers also examined how that caffeine affected eating later in the day by treating the subjects to a sandwich buffet and tracking their calories consumed. When caffeinated pre-workout, subjects ate about 72 calories less than when they had the placebo.
So it’s official: a coffee as pre-workout drink makes your workout more fun and keeps you from overindulging later in the day.
Just stay with straight Espresso and don’t treat yourself to a grande Frappucino, or you will need an extra hour in the gym to get rid of these calories!
